Canning Season

September 08, 2014

Yes, it's still canning season! There's something about that little bit of nip in the air that triggers a nesting instinct to prepare for the winter. There has been a frenzy of activity as customers come in to stock up on canning supplies for pickling and preserving. We particularly love these Le Parfait French canning jars. They come in a wide range of sizes and are perfect for handling the heat of canning and providing an excellent seal. Customers tell us that the wide mouth make working with the jars much easier. The old fashioned look and feel make it a container worthy of gift-giving with a lifetime of usefulness long after the contents have been devoured.

The touted health benefits of pickled vegetables' role in healthy digestion has contributed to an upswing in canning. If you're new to the craft, we have a number of books, canning kits and all of the supplies you need to get started. Cucumbers, carrots, green beans, cabbage, beets are just a few of the most popular vegetables to pickle.

It's been a bountiful summer here on Vashon and canning is a way to enjoy the bounty all year long.
